Flexible working and why you can’t afford not to embrace it

Cheney is a true believer in that flexible working practices are a key component to diverse work places.

Having launched in 2017, Cheney Hamilton founded Find Your Flex alongside her husband with a goal to help those in senior positions find flexible jobs.

In this episode of our Spotlight on a Startup Series, we talk to Cheney about flexible work, being a working parent, building a business from the ground up and finding top talent from thinking of the future of the workforce.

With a thriving network and over 90,000 site user respondents, Find Your Flex found out that flexible working was for everyone, not just working parents.

It was about empowering employees to work on their terms producing the same output.

Cheney commented : “it was about looking at what does output mean for the businesses of the future and how we are actually going to reward and pay the people that work for us and help us drive our businesses”

While their initial target market was initially working mothers (75% of their audience), within four years the audience had reached a 50-50% male and female split.

“Closing the gender pay gap can be achieved when men are invested in flexible working too.” Cheney says.

Data shows us a totally different picture from what flexible working is usually associated with. From the Just a Flex Audience looking for flexible work, Cheney has found that:

  • 62% of our audience are do not currently have active childcare requirements

  • 1 in 5 are from the LGTB Community

  • 1 in 10 is disabled

“Some of our younger clients for example look for 4 day work week to go travel on the weekends while older people, closer to the retiring age may want more time to be able to mentor others, it is not just working parents that may want flexibility”.

Flexible working “is about being inclusive, is being diverse and it is all about moving with the requirements that we need as a society on the future of work and on the future of business”

Find Your Flex is it is all about Passion, Leadership and striving for societal change”.
